5 easy ways to kick start your sales

Get over the sales slump

No matter the time of the year, you may hit a sales slump. Customers may be recovering from EOF, Christmas spending, or various other seasonal incidences that can cause the wallet to snap shut.

So how do you get over the sales slump?

1.   Bundle

You may operate in the service industry or sale of goods, but nothing gets a customer more eager to spend than the idea that they are getting more bang for their buck! Bundle up your offers for a special price point that speaks to the current needs of your customer.

2.   Automate

Consider what could be happening in the background that can help you generate new sales next week. You can easily create automated actions through free platforms such as Mail Chimp. For example, if someone adds something to their cart but leaves it sitting there idle, Mail Chimp or similar engine can send them a reminder email or a discount offer to get them over the line. Companies that invest in marketing automation solutions see a 70% faster sales cycle and 63% better ROI (source: ADMA).

3.   Don’t look outside, look inside

While you may be thinking you need to find new customers, now is the time to focus on the ones you have and build that relationship. Find out what they need, what’s working and where you can help. Nurturing this relationship will help you generate new sales because when it comes to buying – people buy from people they trust. Plus, repeat customers buy more and refer more new customers – by their 10th purchase from you a customer has already referred seven new customers to your business (source: ADMA).

4.   Don’t tell me what, tell me why

People don’t buy goods and services – they buy what the solution will achieve. Your customer is looking for the best business to help them achieve their solution. Consider how you market your business, making simple tweaks to sell the solution and outcome will likely improve your outcomes over simply listing the service or product. We all don’t buy the iPhone because it’s the best phone on the market, we buy it because we want to look cool and we don’t want to feel left out– who cares we have to charge it three times a day!

5.   Create an event or celebrate a day for funsies

Maybe you own a laser hair clinic and want to generate some buzz, so you decide to celebrate the national cat day and profile the Sphynx, otherwise known as the hairless cat. You take it a step further and partner with your local cat shelter to raise money through sales to aid their rescue efforts. Look if you stayed with me for that whole explanation on how cats and laser hair removal come together, imagine how many customers you can engage with some actual real marketing on this. See what I’m saying? Think outside the box on how you can bring in customers through a totally new avenue while raising your commitment to helping give back to your local community charities.

Have fun with new sales and marketing activities, it’s your chance to test what works and decide where to invest your money into.

And if all else fails – the classic ‘closing down sale’ technique done every three months seems to work well for rug stores.
